From Field to Realtime: Integrating Advance Technologies for Water Security

This abstract has open access
Abstract Summary
The interdependencies between water, energy, food, and ecosystems demands an integrated approach to resource management. Climate variability, growing demand, fragmented data and inefficient use of resources threaten sustainability. Realizing the necessity, Vassar Labs developed aquaWISE- a cloud-based AI-driven platform that simplifies water management using a combination of science and data. Motivation & Novelty: Traditional approaches fail to account for the cascading effects of decisions on WEFE nexus. This comes as a motivation to leverage digital technologies to provide real-time, predictive insights that drives water security. This goes beyond isolated solutions to a systems-thinking approach that aligns with regulatory frameworks, adding to socio-economic benefits. Key Results & Impact: Water storage, transmission & distribution optimization: aquaWISE has been successfully deployed for large-scale reservoir operations, hydropower optimization, city water accounting and use efficiency. This reduces wastage, gives insights on sectoral demand, enhances fair water allocation and supply reliability. Agricultural Productivity: By integrating weather forecasting, soil moisture analytics and irrigation models, the platform supports water release scheduling and crop growth efficiency. Water related risk assessments: Real-time ecological and 3D flood impact assessments aid in balancing water extraction with environmental flows, ensuring disaster preparedness and climate readiness. Smart Policy Integration: The platform provides actionable intelligence to policymakers on water auditing and benchmarking. This bridges the gap between science and governance for evidence-based decision-making. Conclusion: To put it all under one vision, Vassar Labs targets to achieve the following SDGs i.e. 2, 6, 7, 11, 13, 15 with the use of digital solutions. With climate technology, we are aiming to build a resilient future across the food-water-energy nexus. Digital Transformation is the next gen reality; hence we are expressing our interest to be a part of the congress and unite the world for water.
